MacGregor 26M: The Sailboat for Powerboaters
....Or is it the powerboat for sailors?
The MacGregor 26M is a sailboat that's rated for a 50hp motor and can power along at 20mph.
The MacGregor 26M trailerable sailboat is an exciting and unusual hybrid of powerboat and sailboat. It appeals to those who want or need to get somewhere fast, while still carrying a sloop sailing rig of mainsail and jib, genoa, or spinnaker.
Roger MacGregor almost singlehandedly jumpstarted the trailerable cruising sailboat market with his invention of the retractable keel, which made the MacGregor sailboat practical to trailer when you want to expand your sailing horizons. The MacGregor yacht can be kept on its trailer, avoiding the expense of marine or dockage fees. It can be towed anywhere that's accessible by car, and launched at any boat ramp. It can be fully rigged in and ready to sail away in just a few minutes.
With the development of the MacGregor trailerable cruising sailboat, suddenly sailing and cruising are within reach of many thousands who previously wouldn't have considered it. The MacGregor sailboat owner can trailer his boat across the state or across the country, and wherever he launches, he can motor at more than 20 mph to wherever he really wants his trip to start. He can also use his outboard's motoring speed to outrun storms or other bad weather.
The MacGregor is rated for a 50hp outboard engine. (The Tohatsu 50hp outboard is recommended.) Its speed under power opens up new worlds of possibilities that the average monohull sailboat owner just can't consider for a week-end or week-long sailing cruise at 6 or 8 knots.
With the updated hull design of the new MacGregor 26M, the MacGregor sailboat provides better sailing performance, more comfort, and a more usable interior cabin. A movable galley slides into the cabin for cooking, then slides back out of the way at bedtime — making it possible for 6 to sleep comfortably in the MacGregor.
The MacGregor comes with wheel steering, a retractable daggerboard, 2 double berths, 2 single berths. A PortaPotty or self-contained marine head is available.
The MacGregor's sail rigging can use a jib, genoa or cruising spinnaker. Roller furling is available as an option.
